A fire on a passenger ferry in the Philippines kills 31 people. This was announced on March 30 by ABS-CBN TV channel, citing Basilan province governor Jim Hataman-Sulliman.
It is known that there were 250 passengers and crew on the ship Lady Mary Joy 3 when it caught fire in the island of Baluk-Baluk.
Initially, 12 dead were reported, but 18 bodies were found in one part of the ship, including six children. Another body was found in the water near the city of Isabel.
So far, seven people are missing. According to the head of the province, their number may increase, because the exact number of passengers on the ship is not yet known.
According to official information from the authorities, about 230 people were rescued, 23 of them were taken to the hospital.
The cause of the fire on the ferry is under investigation.
