The agreement with the operators of the European energy interconnection system ENTSO-E allows Ukraine to apply for assistance in unforeseen situations.
Ukraine got the opportunity to receive emergency electricity assistance not only from neighboring countries, but also from other EU countries. This was reported by the press service of Ukrenergo.
It is reported that the corresponding agreement was signed with 15 system operators of the European energy association ENTSO-E. The document allows Ukraine to ask for help in unexpected situations, such as a Russian attack on energy infrastructure.
“Emergency assistance is an urgent supply of electricity from abroad at the request of the system operator in the event that the internal reserves and means to avoid the simultaneous shutdown of a large number of consumers are exhausted already,” explained Ukrenergo.
The company notes that such a step is very important in a full-scale war.
“Thanks to the unity and determination of our friends, Ukrenergo can count on good emergency assistance. So, now the Ukrainian network is even stronger, which means that Ukrainians will have light at home even in darkest hour,” said Volodymyr Kudrytsky, leader. of the company.
It will be remembered that on March 16, 2022, Ukraine and Moldova synchronized their electrical networks with the EU network. This is an “energy visa-free regime” in the EU, which the Ukrainian authorities have been working on for a long time.
And in February 2023, ENTSO-E increased the technical ability to import electricity to Ukraine to 700 MW.
