World Health Organization (WHO) believes that adults in good health do not need an additional dose of vaccine against COVID-19except for the main dose and the first booster dose, since the benefits are minimal.
The experts said that for this medium-risk group of people under 60 and children and adolescents 6 months to 17 years of age with comorbidities, there is no risk of additional doses, but “health benefits are small.” WHO.
The WHO Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Vaccines (SAGE) has published recommendations from its meeting this week in Geneva.
New SAGE recommendations reflect the impact omicron variant and the high level of immunity achieved among the world’s population through infections and through vaccination, the WHO said.
New categories
SAGE proposed three new priority categories for vaccination against COVID-19 depending on the risk of developing a serious illness or death: high, medium and low
Meanwhile, the elderly, adults with other pathologies, immunocompromised people, pregnant women, and frontline healthcare workers are recommended to be revaccinated after primary vaccination and first revaccination.
SAGE recommends an interval of 6 to 12 months between revaccinations, depending on the incidence. (AFP)
