Yevgeny Prigozhin, the so-called “Putin’s chef” and head of the private military company Wagner, may use his influence in the Russian media to position himself as a potential candidate in the 2024 Russian presidential election.
This is written by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Analysts have pointed to Prigogine’s recent interview, which is visually similar to various interviews with war criminal Vladimir Putin. Before this, videos with beautiful looked different – they were frames in dynamics or reminiscent of a battlefield.
Prigozhin also used the interview to reiterate his previous arguments about the need to instill a hardline ideology into Russian fighters and imply that the Russian Defense Ministry is intentionally depriving the Wagner group of artillery ammunition, the ISW report says.
The staged parody of Putin’s interview could be used as part of a larger trolling campaign to attack the Kremlin, or to draw underhanded parallels between Prigogine and Putin.
In addition, the ISW indicated that Russia is trying to cut spending in various areas to support the increase in defense spending, further responding to the challenges associated with aggression and creating the conditions for a protracted war.
