The International Olympic Committee recommended that Russian and Belarusian athletes be allowed to participate in international competitions in a neutral status.
These recommendations apply to international sports federations. This decision was dismissed today, March 28, at a meeting of the IOC Executive Committee. Athletes from Russia and Belarus must compete as neutral athletes and teams from these countries will not compete. Athletes and personnel who actively support the war, and athletes who have a contract with the Russian and Belarusian armies are not allowed. It is also prohibited to allow all Russian and Belarusian military personnel to compete. The corresponding statement appeared on the official website of the organization.
Each athlete from these countries must comply with all anti-doping rules. Sanctions against the governments of Russia and Belarus remain in force. No competitions can be held on the territory of these countries.
In addition, there is a ban on the use of any symbols of the two countries in all events, including in the stands. Russian and Belarusian policies are prohibited from attending international competitions.
Recall that on March 10 it became known that the International Fencing Federation (FIE) decided to cancel the suspension of athletes from Russia and Belarus from competitions under the auspices of the organization. Thus, already in July, Russians and Belarusians will be able to compete at the World Championships in Milan, Italy.
