Donald Trump offered bizarre explanations for his social media threats against Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg in a scathing interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Monday.
Hannity asked the former president to explain two posts that made waves last week as a possible indictment against Trump could soon be announced from Bragg’s office. On Thursday, Trump posted a photo of himself holding a baseball bat alongside a photo of Bragg with his hands raised. The post was later removed. In another post, Trump suggested that a potential indictment of him by Bragg could lead to “death and destruction.”
In a rambling response, Trump appeared to suggest he was unaware of the photo, which was likely part of a similar article, when he shared it. He also seemed to be under the impression that people thought the image actually showed him threatening Bragg with a baseball bat, pointing out at length that “these were two separate images”.
“They took that picture from the White House and put it in and then put a picture of Alvin Bragg,” he said, after talking about the company that made the baseball bat.
As for the “death and destruction” post, which is still active, Trump tried to convey it as a message of concern rather than a threat.
“I didn’t say ‘do something bad.’ I say I’m afraid that people will be fine something because people are really upset about it,” she said.
Donald Trump/Social Truth
Earlier this month, Trump said he expected to be arrested on Tuesday as part of Bragg’s investigation in New York, which is believed to focus on a 2016 cash payment to adult film actor Stormy Daniels in changing her silence about an alleged affair with Trump. .
Trump’s intense rhetoric is at times reminiscent of the language he used before the January 6, 2021 riots, which many onlookers raised the alarm could lead to more violence.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-Calif.), for example, said Friday that Trump clearly “hasn’t learned his lesson” from the U.S. Capitol riot and warned that “if he continues, he will kill someone”.
