Josep Borrell, head of EU diplomacy, reacted to the recent statement by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, who announced his intention to deploy nuclear weapons in Belarus.

According to Borrell, such actions would pose a threat to European security. This is stated in a statement by Borrell, published on his Twitter page.

Placement in Russian nuclear weapons would mean an irresponsible escalation and a threat to European security. Belarus can still stop it, it’s their choice,” Borrell stressed. The EU is ready to respond with further sanctions.

Recall that on March 25, Putin, in an interview with the Russian propaganda channel Rossiya 24, said that he would place tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus – a storage facility for weapons is planned to be built before July 1. It is alleged that they will control nuclear warheads from Moscow, Russia will use the territory of Belarus only for storage.
