Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired Defense Minister Yoav Gallant after he disagreed with judicial reform, according to JPost.
Netanyahu told Gallant that he lost confidence in the defense minister after he “acted behind the government’s back.”
Now Israel’s prime minister has 48 hours to appoint a new defense minister.
The planned judicial overhaul has plunged Israel into its worst political crisis in years and mass protests, with up to 500,000 people participating at once.
Earlier, Yoav Galant called on the Israeli government to cancel the implementation of the judicial reform, saying that the intense controversy surrounding it poses a threat to national security.
