Electricity tariffs will not increase until April 30.
On March 24, Prime Minister Denys Shmihal announced this after a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.
April 1 was supposed to end a special period with preferential prices for electricity. Today, the government extends it until April 30 – the price of electricity until the end of the heating season will remain unchanged.
But after the end of the heating season, electricity tariffs may double, experts believe. This was announced by Advisor to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yuriy Boyko, writes glavcom.ua.
Today, the tariff for residential consumers is about four times lower than the real price of energy. And, supporting this tariff, the state subsidizes every kilowatt-hour, regardless of the level of income of all consumers. Now more than UAH 140 billion is spent on such subsidies. per year,” Boyko explained.
Households consuming up to 100 kWh per month (inclusive) now pay for electricity at a tariff of UAH 1.44 (including VAT) per 1 kWh, and those consuming more than that – at a tariff of UAH 1.68 (including VAT) per 1 kWh .
If earlier the consumer paid 360 hryvnia for the consumption of 250 kWh, then after the tariff is doubled, the bill will increase to 720 hryvnia. On average, the payment for electricity in Ukraine in 2023 can grow from the current UAH 240 per month to UAH 470 (at a tariff of UAH 2.8 / kWh) or up to about UAH 840 (at market pricing).
Recently, Energy Minister German Galushchenko said that the issue of tariff increases could be considered after the end of the heating season, approximately in mid-April:
If tariffs are reviewed, then only after the end of the heating season and the increase can only be diversified, that is, depending on the consumption of each household.
