By joining NATO, Sweden may not give up some key positions – for example, the placement of permanent military bases and nuclear weapons.
The process of Sweden’s entry into NATO could take almost a year. This was stated by Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson, reports SVT.
According to him, the process of obtaining full membership can take about a year, and the authorities are prepared for the fact that some difficulties may arise along the way – as stated position of Turkey.
“We have seen this before and we are ready. We will talk at many different levels with all 30 member countries, including Turkey,” the prime minister said.
Andersson said that when joining NATO, Sweden may not give up some of its key positions.
“We can make the same statements as Norway and Denmark did in their time, that they do not want to put permanent military bases and nuclear weapons on their territory,” the prime minister said, noting that the military bases are meant in times of peace.
On the eve it was reported that Sweden has officially decided to apply for membership in the North Atlantic alliance.
Earlier, Finland also decided to apply to NATO.
