During the mass war, the bodies of more than 1,500 fallen heroes of Ukraine were handed over to families from the occupied territories.
The bodies of another 83 dead defenders were returned to Ukraine. Oleg Kotenko, Commissioner for Missing Persons, announced this on Telegram on Friday, March 24.
The relocation process took place with the assistance of the Office of the Commissioner for Missing Persons under the Ministry of Reintegration in collaboration with law enforcement agencies.
“Every time we transfer the bodies of the dead defenders, we strictly follow the standards of the Geneva Convention. Negotiations on the contrary will not stop to bring everyone back home as soon as possible,” said Kotenko.
He recalled that the hotline of the Ombudsman for Missing Persons is operational: 0 800 339 247. You can also report missing persons in person to the Ombudsman by phone: (099) 792-01-26. On weekends, you can send Viber and Telegram messages to the number: (095) 896-04-21.
Recall, on March 3, it was reported that Ukraine returned the bodies of 17 fallen defenders. At that moment, the bodies of 1,426 Ukrainian defenders had been recovered since the beginning of the full Russian invasion. Considering today’s exchange, this number has already exceeded 1500.
