The city council at today’s meeting renamed 16 streets whose names are associated with Russia and the Soviet past. This was announced by the mayor Vitali Klitschko.
Streets of Ukrainian Heroes and Hetman Skoropadsky appeared in Kyiv,” Klitschko pointed out.
In particular, the following have been renamed:

Leo Tolstoy Street – Hetman Pavel Skoropadsky Street;

Perov Boulevard – Voskresensky Avenue;

Liberators Avenue – Georgy Narbut Avenue (Ukrainian artist, author of the first Ukrainian state signs – banknotes and postage stamps);

Yuri Gagarin Avenue – Leonid Kadenyuk Avenue;

Marina Tsvetaeva street – Alexandra Exter street (Ukrainian avant-garde artist);

Suzdalskaya street – Oleksa Girnyk street (Ukrainian dissident, political prisoner, Hero of Ukraine. On January 21, 1978, he burned himself at the grave of Taras Shevchenko in protest against the Russification of Ukraine).
