85% of Ukrainians consider the Soviet Union responsible and complicit in the resolution of World War II.
The majority of Ukrainians (62%) believe that Ukraine should celebrate the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation on May 8, and 22% that the country should celebrate the Day of Victory over Nazism on May 9. This is confirmed by Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) survey data.
The poll was conducted January 19-27 among 2004 respondents.
It was noted that the absolute majority (85%) of the inhabitants of Ukraine consider the Soviet Union responsible and complicit in the solution of the Second World War. The opinion that the USSR had absolutely nothing to do with the decision of the Second World War was shared by 7%.
62% of the respondents said that on May 8/9 it is necessary to honor all those who died or suffered in the war, 41% – all those who during the Second World War deliberately fought for a free Ukraine against any enemies , and 32% – all who fought against Nazism.
According to the survey, 69% of the respondents believe that the OUN-UPA during the Second World War fought against all those who violated the independence of Ukraine, 14% – that the OUN-UPA fought only against the Bolshevik regime, 4% – when the side of the Nazis against the Red Army and 3 % – that the OUN-UPA fought only against the Nazis and their satellites.
Recall that one of the previous KIIS polls showed that the majority of Ukrainians associate the country’s future with Europe.
It was also reported that among the social institutions of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have the highest level of trust – they are trusted by 95.8% of citizens. This was said by the director of the sociological service of the Razumkov Center Andrey Bychenko.
