The Wagner group may not survive after what is happening around Bakhmut, believes Vadim Skibitsky.
The head of the Russian private military company Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, is unlikely to be a winner in a conflict with the Russian Defense Ministry. This was stated by the Deputy Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense Vadim Skibitsky in an interview for RBC-Ukraine, published on Thursday, March 23.
“This conflict continues. Who will emerge victorious? Probably, the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff,” he said.
He recalled that the department of Sergei Shoigu strictly limited the supply and ammunition for the “Wagnerites”. Prigozhin had problems recruiting staff. In addition, he did not fulfill the promise he made: he said that he would take Bakhmut before September. He began to criticize the regular Russian army, although he did not keep his promises.
“But the main thing is whether the Wagner PMC will remain after what is happening around Bakhmut now? It is losing its main forces, and their interests are not limited only to Ukraine. They have tasks in Syria, Africa, in Middle East. Prigozhin frankly admitted that it was just dried up,” added Skibitsky.
Earlier this week it became known that Prigozhin had sought help from Shoigu near Bakhmut. According to him, the Armed Forces of Ukraine intend to launch a mass offensive and deliver a flank dissecting strike to cut off the Wagner PMC units from the main forces of the RF Armed Forces.
It was also reported that PMC Wagner wanted to recruit 30,000 militants by May.
