Zelensky visited the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Bakhmut

The President listened to reports about the operational situation and the course of the battle in this sector of the front, and also spoke with the military.

During a working trip to the Donetsk region, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the advanced positions of the Ukrainian military in the Bakhmut direction. This was reported by the press service of the head of state on Wednesday, March 22.

It is indicated that Zelensky heard the reports on the operational situation and the course of the battle in this sector of the front. He spoke to the military and thanked them for protecting Ukraine.

“I have the honor to be here today, in the east of our state, in Donbass, and to give our heroes, thank you, shake hands. Thank you for defending the state, sovereignty, east of Ukraine,” the president said.

The participants honored the memory of the fallen defenders with a minute of silence.

Zelensky also awarded state awards to the military. In particular, the order of the Golden Star was received by the artilleryman, captain Ilya Vergun, who was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine. He has been fighting since February 24, 2022. Directly led anti-tank personnel during the liberation of Trostyanets in the Sumy region, participated in the suppression of the enemy in the direction of Izyum. The units under the leadership and with the direct participation of Vergun destroyed a large number of Russian equipment.

Earlier, the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that the Russians had tactically failed in the operation in Bakhmut, whose defense was well planned.
