European Council President Charles Michel and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Sunday evening, May 15, were among the first European leaders to congratulate Ukraine on winning Eurovision 2022. Corresponding messages were appear on the Twitter accounts of politicians.
So, in the fixed tweet Michel, made public in the first minutes after the announcement of the voting results of the competition, said the following in Ukrainian and English:
“Sincere congratulations to the Kalush Orchestra on winning Eurovision 2022! I will always come with you on broken roads. I wish that next year the Eurovision would be held in Kyiv, in a free and united Ukraine.”
The head of the British government, who has been called Ukraine’s “great friend” since the beginning of the Russian invasion, declaredthat the success of the Ukrainians is the result of the combination of the talent of the performers and the support of Ukraine in its struggle for independence.
Johnson also greeted British representative Sam Ryder, who came in second, saying he was proud of the singer.
