John Kirby said the US President intends to speak on the phone with the Chinese leader, but did not give an exact date.
The US presidential administration is working on the possibility of telephone conversations between Joseph Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping. This was announced by White House strategic communications coordinator John Kirbina in a briefing on Monday, March 20.
“Biden wants to talk again with (the leader of China – ed.) Xi. And he will do it. And we will do it at a convenient time,” he said.
However, he added that he could not yet determine the date of such talks.
“But it’s important that we keep the lines of communication open, especially now that tensions are so high,” Kirby said.
He also recalled that Secretary of State Anthony Blinken postponed a visit to China after a spy balloon was discovered in the United States. However, according to him, Washington still wants to carry out this visit.
A White House spokesman said Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo are working to visit China to discuss economic issues.
It will be remembered that the new Premier of the State Council (government) of China, Li Qiang, said that China and the United States can and should work together, because, by working together, they can “achieve a lot.”
