France’s National Assembly on March 20 rejected two votes of no confidence in the government, which was put forward separately by the opposition group LIOT and Marine Le Pen’s Rally National party.
BFM TV reports that 278 deputies voted for the LIOT document, 94 voted for the proposal of the National Association. At least 287 votes were required to pass.
The deputies put forward a vote of no confidence in the government of Elizabeth Borne after she announced that a law providing for raising the retirement age from 62 to 64 years would be passed bypassing Parliament.
According to BFM TV, after the deputies voted against the vote of no confidence in the government, the pension reform was adopted by the National Assembly. On March 21, the law is to be considered by the Constitutional Council.
After the vote, a protest rally began near the National Assembly. Demonstrators chant “Macron resign!”. BFM reports that the police intervened several times.
