Norway sent a new batch of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. According to the Norwegian Ministry of Defense, the combat vehicles have already arrived at the place of deployment.
It is specified that Ukrainian crews are being trained in Poland to work with them. In total, eight tanks and four auxiliary vehicles were delivered – two Bergepanzer 2 armored recovery vehicles and two NM189 Ingeniorpanservogn engineering vehicles.
On February 14, the Ministry of Defense announced its decision to transfer the tanks to the kingdom. The department explained its decision by saying that “the situation in Ukraine is approaching a critical phase, and it depends on the rapid and large-scale support of the West.”
The Norwegian authorities decided to transfer these combat vehicles to Ukraine after several of their NATO allies announced at once that they would send their tanks to Ukraine.
The Norwegian military does not forget about their needs either: their country borders on Russia, so back in February the government announced that it had ordered 54 Leopard 2 tanks from Germany to strengthen its own defense capability. These tanks should enter service before 2026.
The decision to transfer to Ukraine eight Leopard 2А4NO main battle tanks and four support vehicles was made by the Norwegian government on February 15. Also later, the Minister of Defense of the country, Bjorn Arild Gram, said that Norway would allocate 24.5 million dollars. for ammunition and spare parts for Leopard 2 tanks. Now, according to the Norwegian Armed Forces, the tanks have been delivered to the training sites for Ukrainian personnel in Poland.
