War in Ukraine. London and Kyiv sign agreement on digital trade

The United Kingdom and Ukraine signed a digital trade agreement on Monday that aims to facilitate trade between the two countries as part of British support for Kiev in the face of the Russian incursion. In addition to this agreement, which was published at the end of last November, and whose signature is described as “historic” by the British Minister of International Trade, Cammy Badenoch, the United Kingdom announces the extension of the elimination of customs duties on all imports of Ukrainian goods. until March 2024.

The agreement signed on Monday by the British Minister and the Minister of Economy of Ukraine, Yulia Sviridenko, allows Ukraine. “Guaranteed access to financial services is critical to reconstruction efforts” thanks to “facilitating” data traffic, according to a press release from the UK Department of Commerce.

“Ukrainian companies will also be able to trade more efficiently and cheaply.” Through electronic transactions, signatures and treaties with the United Kingdom, the text continues. “The historic agreement signed today ushers in a new era of modern trade between our two countries.”, British Minister Cammy Badenoch said. The text, as well as the extension of the tariff exemption, will contribute to “protecting jobs, resources and families for Ukraine now and in the post-war period”.

Country “Believes that an open and free framework for the digital economy is the best investment for future-oriented development”, – claims the Minister of Economy of Ukraine, quoting the press release of the British government. The latter emphasizes that the United Kingdom’s promises of military, humanitarian and economic support to Ukraine after the Russian invasion amount to four billion pounds (4.5 billion euros). An international conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine will also be held in London at the end of June. Under the influence of sanctions, the import of Russian goods to Great Britain decreased by 99%, the export to Russia by 80%, reports the Ministry of Trade.
