The Italian Ministry of Defense confirmed that 20 Ukrainian soldiers were trained at a military base in the municipality of Sabaudia. They trained to use the SAMP-T air defense system.
The Ukrainian military was forbidden to leave the barracks, and Italian soldiers were forbidden to communicate with them. Another part of the Ukrainian military visited an infantry school in the municipality of Cesano to test armored vehicles, Ilgiornaleditalia reports.
France and Italy in February jointly agreed on the transfer to Ukraine of the SAMP / T air defense system and the purchase of 700 Aster-30 missiles for it.
The system will allow Ukraine to protect itself from attacks by drones, missiles and Russian aircraft, covering a significant part of the territory.
This air defense system can destroy aerodynamic targets at a distance of up to 150 km and at an altitude of up to 25 km. The complex is also capable of fighting ballistic missiles at a distance of up to 25 km and at the same height.
