Parts of Russian soldiers do not give weapons, they only dig trenches. The New York Times correspondent spoke with Ukrainian soldiers about the tactics of the Russian army near Bakhmut.
A reconnaissance drone operator showed him a video of an unarmed Russian soldier. They assume that some of the military and mercenaries do not carry weapons, because their only task is to dig trenches.
They have a very good division of tasks: who only digs, who brings ammunition, who shoots, and they separately participate in the offensive, the newspaper quotes the Ukrainian military named Yaroslav.
The Russian military is very good at digging in. As soon as their troops advance, men with shovels come up behind and dig trenches and dugouts, while others carry ammunition and bury them in pits.
Soon they have a whole village,” Yaroslav told the New York Times.
A representative of the 3rd Assault Brigade (former Azov Regiment), which has been exterminating Rashists near Bakhmut for three months, told reporters that he was shocked by how the Russian military again and again rush to certain death.
In the first month, every day, five or six times a day, groups of 10-15 people attacked our infantry positions through the forest strip. They are killed and the next ones come. Psychologically difficult [за цим спостерігати], is something unseen. Our guys are wondering if they’re on drugs. Otherwise, how can they go to certain death, stepping over the corpses of their colleagues. This is where you can go a little crazy.
In their opinion, Russian tactics are provided by barrage detachments, under pain of punishment or execution, forbidding to retreat. The video, filmed by a Ukrainian drone, shows how, in case of danger, an unarmed soldier wants to retreat, but looks back at his positions, and as a result continues to move forward.
