The Russian leader did not achieve any of the goals declared at the beginning of the war and suffered severe losses.
Russia has lost the war unleashed against Ukraine and it must be understood that it has no other choice but to negotiate with Kyiv. This is what German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in an interview with t-online.
“Russia did not achieve any of the goals mentioned at the beginning of the war. Ukraine was not occupied, but defended itself with great skill, courage and self -sacrifice. NATO did not retreat, but actually did. expanded its forces in the eastern part of the alliance. And when Finland and Sweden join NATO, the alliance will be even stronger.Russia’s military itself has suffered huge losses, more than a decade of the Soviet Union’s campaign “It should gradually become clear to Putin that the only way in this situation is to have an agreement with Ukraine,” said the head of the German government.
Prior to that, Scholz spoke with Putin on the phone. He noted that in this conversation he felt no change in the mood of the Kremlin leader.
According to Scholz, at some point Russia must understand that the only possible possibility of removing sanctions is an agreement with Ukraine. And it cannot be a peace dictated by Moscow and imposed on Ukraine.
The head of the German government stressed: the conditions of peace, intentions to restore sovereignty in the unified Crimea and such issues decided by Ukraine itself.
“We can’t negotiate on their behalf, one way or another,” the politician said.
At the same time, Scholz assured that Germany will continue to provide assistance to Ukraine, including weapons, and strengthen sanctions.
“Because our goal is to thwart Russia’s aggression attempt. This is the guideline for our actions,” the chancellor said. In response to the remark that penalties have little effect, Scholz said this impression is wrong. He also assured that Berlin would not make any decisions that could lead to a direct confrontation between NATO and Russia.
Scholz is convinced that Putin is acting irrationally, “Russia itself and the whole world are paying a very high price for Putin’s crazy idea of expanding the Russian empire.”
Zelensky had previously reportedly discussed defense support, sanctions against the Russian Federation and energy cooperation with Scholz.
