In Kyiv, it is proposed to create an influential organization of major grain exporting countries, which will respond to threats to food security.

At a meeting of G7 ambassadors, Ukraine announced the need to create an influential Organization of Grain Exporting Countries that will respond to the challenges of the global market. This was stated by Minister of Agrarian Policy Nikolai Solsky at the opening of the G7 Agriculture Ministerial Conference in Stuttgart, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture reported on Saturday, May 14.

“Due to the blockage of Ukrainian ports, 7 million tons of wheat, 14 million tons of corn grain, 3 million tons of sunflower oil and 3 million tons of sunflower cake, as well as other crops, were not entered the world market, ”Solsky said, noting that this has already led to a record increase in prices in the global market.

Therefore, Solsky proposed to discuss the creation of an influential organization of major grain exporting countries in the world, which will respond to threats to food security, especially from the Russian Federation. This organization, at the suggestion of Ukraine, will set the maximum volume of grain exports to stabilize prices and predictability of the market.

In addition, exporting countries will develop a mechanism for directing the excess balance of agricultural products to the needs of the “green” sector of the economy, apply general restrictions on non- friendly action of importers (mainly the restrictive measures of third countries on the import of processed products).

Regarding the principles of organizational work, it was noted that grain residues contracted by third countries should be stored mainly in producing countries.

The Ministry of Agriculture added that in the coming days, G7 agriculture ministers should come up with common sustainable solutions that will ensure global food security and create a stable economic base for farmers.

Recall that as a result of a massive invasion, Russia blocked approximately 90 million tons of grain in Ukrainian ports. This figure was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

The UN also called for the unblocking of the ports of the Odessa region to ensure free delivery of Ukrainian products around the world. Ukraine’s barns are full, and 44 million people are on the brink of starvation.

In the Russian Federation, they said they had not affected the world’s food problem – Ukraine itself had allegedly intercepted dozens of ships carrying wheat in its ports.
