Russia’s attempts to reduce the terms of the deal extension are a manipulation for more blackmail and worsening of the global food crisis, the prime minister said.
Ukraine insists on an indefinite grain agreement and its automatic extension for 120 days. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said this at a government meeting on Friday, March 17.
He noted that Ukraine, together with its allies, is making efforts to extend the grain agreement and has exported more than 24 million tons of agricultural products since the beginning of the initiative. But with the unblocking of sea routes, our country can export double.
“Ukraine is one of the main links to food security in the world. Therefore, we insist that the grain agreement is open and automatically extended for 120 days,” the prime minister said.
According to him, Turkey and the UN follow the same position.
“The aggressor’s attempts to shorten the extension period are manipulation for more blackmail and exacerbating the global food crisis. We must stop it,” concluded Shmyhal.
It will be recalled that on March 14, Russia announced that the grain deal was allegedly extended by 60 days and on the same terms, calling it “a sign of goodwill.” On the same day, Turkey announced that negotiations on a grain agreement were continuing.
The UN also called for an extension of the agreement on the export of grain from Ukraine’s Black Sea ports for 120 days.
As you know, the grain deal expires this week – March 18th.
