The Office of the President said that Ukraine deserves special unprecedented mechanisms for joining the EU.
The European Union and NATO need Ukraine as much as Ukraine needs them. Without it, neither the EU nor the North Atlantic Alliance would be strong. This was stated by the head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak, in an online communication with representatives of the European Policy Center, the report of the President’s website on Saturday, May 14.
Yermak stressed that Ukraine deserves special unprecedented mechanisms for joining the EU. According to him, the status of a candidate should be given in June, otherwise it will be an extremely negative and false signal.
“Now, our country, as neither a member of NATO nor a member of the EU, has been holding off one of the most powerful armies in the world for so many days. And now, the European Union and NATO must finally understand that as well. “because Ukraine needs the EU and NATO, so NATO and the EU need Ukraine. I believe that now the European Union or NATO would not be strong without Ukraine,” Yermak said.
He also stressed that Ukraine will be one of the founders and leaders of the new security system created after the war.
“And we want to do it with our friends in Europe,” Yermak added.
At the same time, Yermak said that the proposal on “alternative options for European integration” is unacceptable for Ukraine, as it creates the same illusion of open doors as in the case of NATO.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron said Ukraine’s entry into the European Union could take decades. He also proposed the creation of a “European political community” that could accommodate Ukraine in its ranks.
