Poland does not want to see on its territory the events that took place during the temporary occupation of the Ukrainian cities of Bucha and Irpen by the Russian army of war criminals, therefore it is strengthening its army and preparing to counteract an external aggressor.
The experience of Ukraine indicates the need for urgent protection of the entire territory of the country. To act in accordance with the doctrine of our predecessors, which provided for defense on the Vistula line and even on the western border of Poland, would be not only wrong, but also shameful. We do not want a repetition of Bucha, Irpen or Bakhmut in Poland, Polish Minister of Defense Mariusz Blaszczak said in an interview with Ukrinform.
According to him, it was for these reasons that it was decided to create the 18th mechanized division and the first infantry division, which will be deployed in the eastern regions of Poland.
Today, Poland is safe, and the Polish army is growing in numbers, it is equipped with modern weapons. Poland is also strong in alliances, as evidenced by the presence of American, British, Romanian and Croatian military forces on Polish territory, Blaszczak added.
It should be reminded that Warsaw began to build fortifications on the border with Belarus, in particular, to install anti-tank hedgehogs. Earlier in February, Poland began building a fortification on the border with the Kaliningrad region.
