Mine explosions in Colombia kill 21 miners

The tragedy occurred in the municipality of Sutataousa. Rescuers removed the bodies of the victims from the underground tunnels, where many blockages had formed.

A series of explosions in coal mines in Colombia have killed 21 miners. It was announced on March 16 at Twitter President of the Republic Gustavo Petro.

“I contacted Governor Nicolás Garcia Bustos who just informed me that despite the best efforts of the rescuers, unfortunately 21 people died as a result of this tragic accident in Sutataous,” he wrote.

An explosion at one of the coal mines in the municipality of Sutataousa occurred on the night of March 14. It was followed by a series of explosions at nearby facilities.

It will be recalled that in April last year, two methane explosions occurred in a mine in Poland. The incident left at least five people dead and more than 20 injured.
