The North Korean missile flew nearly 1000 kilometers and fell into the Sea of Japan without causing any damage.
North Korea on Thursday, March 16, launched a long-range ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan. This was reported by the South Korean and Japanese military, Joseon Ilbo reports.
The North Korean missile flew about 1,000 kilometers and landed 550 kilometers from the southern part of the Korean Peninsula, about 250 kilometers from the island of Hokkaido.
The rocket was launched hours before a meeting scheduled for that day in Tokyo between South Korean President Yun Sok-yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
A national security council was convened in Seoul, which condemned the North Korean missile launch as a “reckless provocation” that threatens peace in the region.
“The reckless provocations of the North will have a clear price,” the South Korean president said.
Yoon Seok-yeol ordered the military to conduct joint Freedom Shield exercises with the United States in accordance with the existing plan.
It can be recalled that on March 14, the DPRK launched two ground-to-ground ballistic missiles during a demonstration firing.
On March 13, South Korea and the United States began the Freedom Shield military exercises, which Pyongyang condemned and called “preparation for an aggressive war.”
