Ukrainian diplomats want to change Swiss public opinion in their favor and unblock the supply of Swiss weapons by partner countries.
Ukrainian diplomats and diaspora will work with Swiss authorities to unlock the possibility of Swiss arms supplies. This was announced on Wednesday, March 15, by the head of the parliamentary group of the Public Servant, David Arahamia.
“We need Swiss weapons. And we will get them,” stressed Arahamia.
He recalled that the Swiss authorities promise to maintain unconditional support for Ukraine and already support sanctions against Russia. At the same time, Switzerland has so far opposed permission to transfer Swiss-made weapons to Ukraine, citing a policy of neutrality.
“We emphasize that there must be no neutrality in genocide and war crimes. Russia does not want to withdraw its troops from Ukraine, their missiles continue to kill our people. We are forced to defend ourselves. And for this we need weapons,” Arahamia stressed.
He added that the election period is now underway in Switzerland, and therefore there are many interpretations of the model of Swiss neutrality.
“However, our diplomats and the diaspora are planning to work with the Swiss elite to finally tilt public opinion in our favor and unblock the supply of Swiss weapons by partner countries. In general, we look at the situation with optimism,” he said.
Arahamia added that Ukraine is not the first time facing objections and has learned how to overcome them.
Remember, the Council of Cantons – the upper house of the Swiss Parliament, after many hours of debate, rejected the petition, which provided for the provision of Swiss-made weapons to Ukraine.
Later, the President of Switzerland supported the refusal to provide weapons to Ukraine, saying that Swiss weapons should not be used in wars.
