The European Commission is also ready to take steps to attract funds from private companies to increase the production of ammunition.
The European Union can allocate 500 million euros for the production of 155 mm ammunition for further transfer to Ukraine. This was stated by the European Commissioner for Financial Services, Financial Stability and Capital Markets Mairead McGuinness.
“The potential of the EU industry for the production of 155 mm ammunition remains significant and needs to be unlocked,” he said.
According to the European Commissioner, all options are now being considered, including the use of the EU budget, if necessary.
“Recently, we brought for discussion an action to strengthen the European defense industry through general procurement. According to it, in the short term, 500 million euros can be used to speed up the production of the necessary shells,” said McGuinness.
It was noted that the European Commission is also ready to take steps to attract funds from private companies to increase the production of ammunition.
Recall that almost all EU countries have agreed to a plan developed in Brussels for the rapid provision of Ukraine with limited artillery ammunition.
As reported, NATO allies are ready to provide Ukraine with more air defense systems, armored vehicles and ammunition.
