The United States of America has removed confidential software from the downed MQ-9 Reaper drone over the Black Sea.
Steps to remove the hidden software were taken after the drone collided with the Russian Su-27 fighter. This was done so that the aggressor country of Russia could not obtain secret information. This was reported on March 15 by CNN, citing several unnamed US officials.
It is also reported that National Security Council coordinator for strategic communications John Kirby confirmed measures to protect the “rights” associated with the reconnaissance drone.
Without going into too much detail, I can say that we have taken steps to protect our rights in relation to this particular drone. And it is the property of the United States. We clearly don’t want anyone to get their hands on it except us,” he said.
Recall that on March 14, in the Black Sea, Russian Su-27 aircraft shot down an American reconnaissance and strike drone MQ-9 Reaper, which was performing an operation in international airspace over the Black Sea.
Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said on March 15 that they would try to retrieve a downed drone from the bottom of the sea. However, the White House believes that this UAV will never be found, given the depth of the Black Sea, where it fell.
