US Air Force Europe and Africa Commander General James B. Hecker said yesterday that two Russian Su-27s shot down an MQ-9 drone. At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that the drone crashed due to “abrupt maneuvering.”
On March 14, the US Air Force issued a statement that a Russian Su-27 during an interception damaged an American MQ-9 Reaper reconnaissance and strike drone over the Black Sea, as a result of which it had to be flooded. The US Department of Defense is currently working to declassify visual data related to the incident in international airspace over the Black Sea. They promised to make public the video of the attack on the MQ-9.
Washington also said it had taken steps to prevent the downed drone from reaching Russia.
