Analysts are confident that the incident with the American drone will not lead to a direct conflict between the countries.
The incident with the American MQ-9 Reaper drone in the Black Sea will not cause a direct conflict between the US and Russia. This is stated in the report of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
As you know, the commander of the US Air Force in Europe and Africa, General James B. Hecker, said that two Russian Su-27 aircraft shot down an American drone, which almost led to the crash of Russian aircraft. At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that the drone crashed due to “sharp maneuvering.”
ISW analysts are convinced that the drone incident will not lead to a direct conflict between Russia and the United States.
“Russian troops have used intimidation tactics against American and allied aircraft and ships for decades in many theaters, which did not lead to conflict,” said the institute’s experts.
The ISW emphasized that the presidents of the United States and the Russian Federation had complete freedom of choice regarding the response, and that such incidents did not automatically cause an escalation of the confrontation between the countries.
Remember, on March 14, the US European Command reported that a Russian aircraft collided with an American drone over the Black Sea.
The Russian Defense Ministry said its Su-27 fighters had nothing to do with the downing of the American MQ-9 Reaper drone in the Black Sea. They also reported that he approached the Crimea and flew with violations.
