President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Iceland’s Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir. This was reported by the press service of the head of state on Tuesday, March 14.
Zelensky thanked the Prime Minister for the fact that Reykjavik has been actively supporting Ukraine since the first days of the Russian invasion.
“I thank your government and people, all Icelanders for their support. And I want to convey this message to your society, parliamentarians. We appreciate that you help us politically, financially, humanitarianly and otherwise places,” Zelensky stressed.
He informed the head of the government of Iceland about the situation at the front. The importance of supporting Ukraine by all partners and allies in the fight against the invaders was noted.
Zelensky noted Iceland’s active position as a leading state in the Council of Europe. In this context, the work to hold Russia accountable for war crimes, genocide, crimes against humanity and crimes of aggression committed in Ukraine was discussed.
Attention was also paid to the steps taken to create a register of the damage caused by the Russian aggression and a full compensation mechanism, especially in the context of the preparations for the summit of the heads of state and government of the Council of Europe in Reykjavik.

Following the meeting, Zelensky and Jakobsdottir signed a joint declaration.
It can be recalled that Zelensky recently held a meeting with Norwegian Defense Minister Bjorn Arild Gramm. Later it became known that Oslo will supply the Ukrainian military with two more NASAMS air defense systems.
