The Russians want to undermine Ukrainian society’s confidence in the government by manipulating the supposedly lost battle for Bakhmut.
The Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security reported that on March 11, the Russian occupiers launched an anti-Ukrainian advertising campaign on Facebook.
It is noted that advertising is distributed on Facebook through unknown channels with the aim of preventing Ukrainians from success. Theses are spreading that the battle for Bakhmut has already been lost by Ukraine, Western states do not believe in a real victory for Ukraine in the war with the Russian Federation, the Command of the Ukrainian Defense Forces is ” fled” while “soldiers are fighting back on their own”, the United States is reducing the supply of weapons, because the Ukrainian authorities were allegedly caught stealing the aid being transferred.
According to the Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security, the invaders wanted to undermine the confidence of Ukrainian society in the government by manipulating the supposedly lost battle for Bakhmut.
“Fakes spread through new pages, without description and content, usually with neutral names. This avoids additional attention from Meta during moderation, because the first step is verification of automated systems. The accounts from which such campaigns are created use IP addresses in other states,” the statement said.
The Center emphasized that the failed attempt to influence Ukrainians betrays an unsuccessful translation of the text from Russian into Ukrainian and Kremlin terms such as “Westerners”, “defeatist moods.”
“How to respond to ads? Open a post and click more in the upper right corner; Click “Report a post more” and select the option that most accurately describes the violation of the Standards of the Community,” the Center said.
Recall that the Russian Federation has strengthened information campaigns against the backdrop of the attack on Bakhmut.
The Ministry of Defense urges not to believe fakes about the battles for Bakhmut.
