Russia and China are calling for “new” and highly arbitrary international relations, Ursula von der Leyen said.
Russia is the most direct threat to world order because of its war against Ukraine and its relationship with China. This was stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Tokyo at the EU-Japan summit, according to the EC website on Thursday, May 12th.
“Russia is now the most direct threat to world order in its barbaric war against Ukraine and its disruptive agreement with China and their call for a‘ new ’and very arbitrary international relationship,” he said.
According to him, not only the future of Ukraine and Europe is at stake, but the entire world order based on international guidelines.
In turn, the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, who was present at the summit, said that cooperation between the EU and Japan in Ukraine is important in Europe, but it is also important in the Pacific region.
“We also want to deepen our consultations with a more sustainable China. We believe that China should stand up for the multilateral system that has benefited it in the development of its country,” Michel said.
