Differences over the goals of the war with the Russian Federation are growing between Ukraine and the United States of America.
Senior White House officials say the unity between Washington and Kiev is strong. However, many US officials are concerned that Ukraine is spending a lot of manpower and ammunition in Bakhmut. Washington believes that this could undermine the ability to launch a large-scale counteroffensive in the spring. Politico reports.
It is also noted that between the countries there seems to be a “disappointment” in the supply of weapons.
Despite this, the Joe Biden administration says the alliance between the US, allies and Ukraine is strong and will remain so as long as the war continues.
National Security Council spokeswoman Adrian Watson said the White House “is in constant communication with Ukraine as we support the defense of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.” According to her, now the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin shows no signs of ending the war. That is why Washington will continue to help Ukraine succeed on the battlefield so that Kyiv can “take the strongest possible position at the negotiating table when that time comes.”
But growing divisions may herald even more divisions in the debate over how the war will end. Although Biden has promised unwavering support and the state treasury remains open for now, the United States has made it clear to Kyiv that it cannot finance Ukraine indefinitely at this level, the newspaper writes.
Recall, The New York Times reported that US President Joe Biden made public his budget request for 2024 and proposed to allocate more than $6 billion in support of Ukraine in 2024.
