Dmitry Kuleba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, commented on the refusal of Volodymyr Zelensky to speak at the Oscars film awards ceremony.
I think if ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ wins the Oscar for Best Foreign Film and President Zelensky, who is at war, running the country, waging the biggest war since World War II in Europe, won’t be allowed to perform at the Oscars. You will not find a better example of the hypocrisy of top managers and producers in the film industry,” the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in an interview with BILD am SONNTAG.
Kuleba believes that the word “funny” is not enough to describe such hypocrisy.
I don’t question the quality of the film. I just want to say, people, if you’re going to be awarding a movie about a war and don’t understand that it’s when you’re drinking champagne and wearing nice clothes and diamonds that someone else doesn’t want to hear the real story of the war that’s going on here and now. something is wrong with you,” the minister said.
Since the beginning of the war, Zelensky has performed at the Golden Globe and Grammy awards, the Cannes Film Festival and the Berlinale.
For the second year, the American Film Academy has denied Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a speech at the most prestigious Oscar film award.
This is reported by Variety, citing its own sources. The director’s agent Aaron Kaufman, who, together with Sean Penn, made a documentary about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, applied to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences with a corresponding request. However, he was refused. At the same time, the organizers of the Oscar-2023 refused to comment on their decision.
In the video message, Zelensky intended to remind the American public that the war is still going on in Ukraine, and Russia continues to kill innocent people, so the aggressor must be stopped.
The Oscars will be handed out in the United States on the night of March 13th.
