The purpose of the missile attack “Daggers” of the Russian Federation was explained in the American “Institute for the Study of War” (ISW). On March 9, Russia launched the biggest missile attack on Ukraine this year, probably only to further the goals of the Kremlin propaganda at the domestic level.
ISW is convinced that, despite the destruction and casualties, this attack will not undermine the will of Ukrainians to fight against Russia’s war criminals. Also, this massive strike is in no way able to improve the positions of the enemy Russian troops on the front line.
ISW analysts believe that the Kremlin deliberately launched missiles that Ukrainian air defense cannot intercept in order to achieve results in the Russian information space.
It is likely that Putin used scarce missiles in mostly inconclusive attacks to appease Russian pro-military and ultra-nationalist communities who called on him to avenge the March 2 incident in the Bryansk region. In addition, Russian military correspondents and propagandists criticized the Russian missile campaign for failing to freeze Ukraine in the winter, ISW said.
However, Russian military bloggers were not very supportive of such actions, noting that the Kremlin needs to fundamentally change the approach to targeting, given that Ukraine has adapted to the established model of attacking its energy infrastructure, the ISW added.
