The bill is also co-sponsored by Democrats Martin Heinrich and Chris Koons and Republicans Cynthia Lummis and Roger Marshall.
A group of American senators from both parties of the US Congress introduced a bill to impose an embargo on Russian uranium. This was announced on Thursday, March 9, on the website of the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources of the US Senate.
“The American nuclear industry is ready to abandon Russian uranium. Wyoming has the resources necessary to increase production at home. The first step is to remove all Russian energy, including uranium, from the American market forever,” said Wyoming Republican Senator John Barrasso.
He emphasized that every dollar from the sale of uranium allows Russia to wage war.
In turn, the chairman of the committee, Senator from West Virginia, Democrat Joe Manchin stressed that the rejection of Russian uranium will guarantee that US nuclear energy companies will not rely on uranium fuel imported from Russia.
In March last year, the United States imposed a ban on the import of energy resources from Russia – oil, petroleum products, coal and liquefied gas, while uranium is not subject to sanctions.
Recall that Ukraine has taken another step of sanctions against a terrorist state. The decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) on sanctions against the Russian nuclear industry has begun.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also called on the world to impose restrictions on the aggressor country’s nuclear industry.
