The US Treasury Department said it was imposing sanctions on Chinese companies that supplied Iran with parts for combat drones, including the Shahed-136. This was announced on Thursday, March 9, in a statement from the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury (OFAC).
The sanctions reportedly concern five Chinese companies, as well as one individual. In particular, Chinese companies are included in the “black list”: Koto Machinery, Raven, Guilin Alpha, S&C Trade and Caspro.
“This network is responsible for the implementation and delivery of components that can be used for the production of combat drones. They are used, in particular, by the Iranian aviation industrial company HESA, which produces the Shahed-136 kamikaze drone,” the explanation said. .
At the same time, the United States indicated that Iran was directly involved in the casualties among the Ukrainian civilian population due to the use of Iranian UAVs by Russia.
Treasury Undersecretary for Counterterrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson assured that the United States will continue to identify networks and procurement schemes that ensure the supply of UAVs and other weapons to Russia for use in the war against Ukraine.
Recall that the United States imposed sanctions against 39 financial institutions that created a “shadow banking network” through which Iran received billions in profits that exceeded the sanctions.
