The latest major strikes in Ukraine will not benefit the Kremlin on the battlefield and are designed to “pacify” the public.
Russian forces launched the largest missile attack on Ukraine in 2023, likely only for state propaganda purposes. This was announced by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) in a report on March 9.
It is noted that the Russian Ministry of Defense called the attack “retaliation for the attacks” in the Bryansk region on March 2. At the same time, according to analysts, it will not affect or improve Russia’s position at the front.
“The Kremlin probably deliberately launched missiles that could not be intercepted by the Ukrainian air defense system to achieve results in the Russian information space, despite the reduction in the stockpile of such missiles … The President probably used of Russia’s Vladimir Putin used these scarce stocks in senseless attacks to appease Russia’s pro-military and ultra-nationalist groups, who have called heavily on him to avenge the incident in the Bryansk region, ” said the report.
ISW recalled that Russian bloggers and propagandists also criticized the authorities for not implementing a “freeze” of Ukraine in late February and early March.
“Putin probably tried to offset these narratives with another missile strike, similar to what Russia did in the fall of 2022, using modern missiles to guarantee some damage to Ukraine,” said experts in military
However, most Russian bloggers do not support the strikes on March 9, noting that the Kremlin needs to change its tactics, as Ukraine has adapted to the established pattern of attacks.
As reported Correspondent.net, on Thursday night, Russian troops carried out a massive air strike in Ukraine. The Russian army launched 81 missiles of various types, including six daggersand eight attack drones.
Arrivals were recorded in Kyiv, Odessa, Kharkov, Zhytomyr and some regions. There were casualties and injuries.
