Slovakia is ready to transfer MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine.
It is time for Slovakia to make a decision on the supply of MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine, Defense Minister Yaroslav Nagy said on Thursday.
People are dying in Ukraine, we can help this country, now is not the time for our internal political intricacies, he said.
Nagy said that the day before he had met in Warsaw with the Polish Minister of Defense, and Poland is also ready to send MiGs to Kyiv if one of the Western partners does this.
In February, Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger said that Bratislava was ready to consider the transfer of fighters, but after Kyiv itself asks for it.
Slovakia has 11 MiG-29 aircraft, some of which were in operation until the summer of 2022.
The issue of deliveries of military aviation to Ukraine arose at the end of last year, after an agreement was reached on the transfer of heavy tanks.
The United Kingdom, France, Poland and the Baltic countries are in favor of sending fighters. Germany and the US are not ready for this.
Washington, in particular, explains that maintaining American F-16 fighters and training Ukrainian pilots to operate them will be very expensive, and they will not bring a turning point in the war.
The United States considers it more expedient to spend this money on other purposes useful for Ukraine.
