There is already approval of the scheme as a whole, but there is a question about the costs. Everything has to be discussed in detail, explained Josep Borrell.
On March 20, EU countries will make a final decision on how they will continue supplying ammunition to Ukraine, especially 155 mm ammunition. This was announced on Wednesday, March 8, by EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Josep Borrell in a briefing after an informal meeting of EU defense ministers.
He recalled that today he proposed three options for solving the problem of ammunition for Ukraine. And EU defense ministers agreed to his proposal to provide Kyiv with immediate military aid with ammunition. For compensation, 1 billion euros will be allocated from the European Peace Fund for these purposes.
“We discussed it. And there was a general approval of this method, but there was a question about the costs. Everything has to be discussed in detail, everyone agrees that we have to move forward urgently, because everything agrees with the goal, to support Ukraine as much as possible and as soon as possible, and with the support of the Swedish presidency, we will continue to seek an agreement on the package at the next meeting on March 20, when the foreign and ministers of defense can, I hope, make a concrete formal decision,” Borrell said.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky called a priority for Ukraine in terms of weapons. And in order to speed up the delivery for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, it is necessary to publicly discuss what is missing, the head of state explained.
