US intelligence suggests that a pro-Ukrainian non-governmental group committed sabotage at the underwater facilities of the Russian gas pipelines Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 (Nord Stream). The New York Times writes about this, citing its own sources.
There is no evidence in the United States that President Volodymyr Zelensky or his aides were involved in the operation, or that the likely saboteurs acted on instructions from the Ukrainian authorities.
Officials do not disclose details of the deal. In their opinion, we are talking about Putin’s opponents, who, most likely, were citizens of Ukraine or Russia. Also, US officials say they have not found any evidence of Russian involvement in the attack.
The Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on this information.
Recall that last year on September 27, Nord Stream AG reported the destruction that occurred on the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines.
The explosives were likely installed by experienced divers who did not work for the military or intelligence services of any country, NYT sources say. US officials refused to release the intelligence. It is estimated that the cost of repairing pipelines is about $500 million.
Recall that Russia intends to mothball the damaged threads of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, there are no plans to repair or resume their work. Moscow considers the project “buried”.
