Counterintelligence of the Security Service frustrated Russia’s plans to create conditions for the occupation of the territory of the coastal regions of the Nikolaev region.
The SBU carried out a large-scale special operation in Ochakiv and detained an agent of the Main Directorate of the General Staff from the Russian Federation (better known as a game), who was collecting intelligence to capture the Ukrainian city.
The Muscovites ordered the agent to persuade the leadership of the city authorities to cooperate with the invaders. For this, the mayor of the city was offered to elect a position in the event of the capture of the southern region.
However, the mayor of Ochakov showed a patriotic stance, informed the SBU about recruitment attempts and contributed to the exposure of hostile plans.
The agent of the game turned out to be a former commander of one of the centers of special operations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Subsequently, he got a job in the Ochakov City Council.
The traitor received the order to recruit Mayor Ochakov in January 2023.
The first stage of the criminal plan was to be a recruiting conversation mediated by the suspect through a phone call. The councilor had to prepare for this mayor of the city. At the end of January, the suspect informed the mayor that representatives of Russia were going to talk to him. On the same day, in the Telegram messenger, he reported to his curator on the results of the recruitment of the mayor.
The mayor of Ochakov told the SBU about the illegal actions of his assistant.
According to the investigation, a 55-year-old resident of the city voluntarily agreed to help representatives of the aggressor state in carrying out explosive activities against Ukraine. Under the pseudonym Master, the suspect received assignments from representatives of the GRU of Russia on an ongoing basis.
The man is charged with committing high treason (part 2 of article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
In addition to recruiting the mayor of the city, his task was to report on the consequences of rocket and artillery shelling of the RF Armed Forces on the territory of the Ochakovo urban territorial community.
