There is a real possibility that even units of the 1st Guards Tank Army, Russia’s main tank formation, will be re-issued with T-62s.

British Ministry of Defence saying goodbye, that the Russian military continues to respond to heavy armor losses by fielding sixty-year-old T-62 main battle tanks.

It was noted that there is a real possibility that even units of the 1st Guards Tank Army, the main Russian tank formation, will be re-issued with T-62s to compensate for past losses. Previously, the army was supposed to receive the next-generation T-14 Armata from 2021.

According to British intelligence, in recent days, the Russian BTR-50 armored personnel carrier, which was first put into service in 1954, was also identified for the first time in Ukraine. Since the summer of 2022, about 800 T-62 tanks have been removed from storage, and some of them have received upgraded sight systems.

The British Ministry of Defense believes that both vintage types of vehicles will have many weaknesses on the modern battlefield, including the lack of modern reactive armor.

Earlier it was reported that the Russian Federation lost about 50% of its combat-ready tanks in Ukraine.

According to the latest data from the General Staff, 3,423 Russian tanks have been destroyed since the start of the war, nine of them in the past day.
