Clashes occurred during hearings on “foreign agents” bills that were not supported by the opposition.

Representatives of the ruling and opposition parties clashed at a meeting of the committee on legal issues of the Georgian parliament. This was reported on March 6 by the Novosti-Georgia portal.

It is known that on Monday the discussion of two versions of the law on “foreign agents” was announced.

During the hearing, a fight broke out between the chairman of the United National Movement, Levan Khabeishvili, and the head of the committee, an MP from the ruling party. Georgian dream Anri Okhanashvili.

Some of the opposition representatives were removed from the hall, some left it to themselves in protest. They hung Georgian and European Union flags from the windows of the parliament, expressing solidarity with the street protests.

The main slogan of the protesters: “There is no Russian law in Georgia.”

It will be recalled that both bills on “foreign agents” were initiated by the movement The power of the people.

First (On the transparency of foreign influence) applies only to non-governmental organizations and media that receive foreign funding, the second (On the registration of foreign agents,) – both individuals and legal entities, with some exceptions.

Serious concern regarding the legislative initiative has been expressed by the US State Department and the European Union.

Several hundred non-governmental organizations and media in Georgia signed a statement against the adoption of the law.
