The forest is suffering the most in Ukraine today. Due to the Russian invasion, almost three million hectares of forest were destroyed.
The initial damage to Ukraine’s environment caused by Russia due to the conflict is estimated at UAH 2 trillion. This was announced on Sunday, March 5, by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ruslan Strelets in his speech at the international conference “United for Justice” in Lviv, reports Ukrinform.
At the same time, the head of the department noted that the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources has developed a new method for fixing and calculating environmental damage.
“We developed a new method together with our environmental inspectorate and used seven types of methods and have already calculated two trillion hryvnias of damage,” he said.
Sagittarius emphasized that we are talking about the pollution of land, air, water, forests.
“Our main goal is to show everyone these indicators so that they can be seen in Europe and the world. So that everyone understands what is the price of this damage to the environment and how to restore this damage done in Ukraine, ” said the minister.
He noted that the forest has suffered the most in Ukraine.
“Almost 3 million hectares of forest have been destroyed. This is almost a third of the forested territory of Ukraine. Almost 500,000 hectares are now under temporary occupation or in a war zone,” he pointed out.
Sagittarius also noted that 10 national parks, eight nature reserves and two biosphere reserves are now under Russian occupation. Under the threat of destruction of 600 species of fauna and 750 species of flora.
Recall that during the year of a full-scale war, the Russians destroyed more than 81 thousand civilian facilities in Ukraine.
